Rates,Rate Constants and Order

The principles of pharmacokinetics form the basis for drug formulations. A practicing pharmacist uses them during clinical applications. These principles would help in optimising
the drug therapy to its fullest beneficial effects. It is required to know the rates, rate constant and order of reactions.Different drugs are used in the body based on this principles by different mechanisms depending on their concentrations and various physico-chemical properties. It is required to become well-versed with these concepts to understand the pharmacokinetic aspects of drugs for rational therapy in clinical practice.

Concept of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (TDM)

The concept of TDM is new, the literature is also scarce and this has inspired me to take up this task of writing the book,a second experience in this field. The first being Quality Assurance of Ayurvedic Formulations - New Horizon which has received encouragement through national journals and readers alike.Since TDM is not practiced all over, this is my humble contribution to enhance interest in this direction.TDM is felt as need of the hour due to the availability of large number of potent drugs with a narrow margin of safety. My long standing teaching experience has also helped me to present this book in the required format to understand the basic principles of this vast and untapped source of information on drugs and their therapeutic evaluation. The topic chosen are mainly useful students if pharmacy and practicing physicians and pharmacists. The book itself is not comprehensive but covers all the essential information.

Therapeutic Drug Monitoring

The science of drug discovery has come a long way, which began with administrations of drugs in crude, bitter and unpalatable forms, to high levels of sophistication.the discoveries like aspirin sulphonamides have revolutionised allopathic system of medicine in the last century,The new millennium has taken further leap in this direction.
Today the latest concept in medicine is towards individualization of treatment. We are aware of the fact that, the animal studies extended to humans or in-vitro experiments extended to humans may not produce the same clinical responses.Similarly when two formulations are given to two different individuals with the same disease, they may not produce the same results in the form of pharmacological actions and responses .In such situations, the management of drug therapy its dosage regimen design play an important role. The drugs with specially narrow margin of safety carry the risk of toxicity with them and pose problems.Every individual is a unique creation with his/her own identity like mental ability, life style, unique functional status of vital organs, the stress and strain experienced, which play a role in in eliciting the drug responses apart from the well established theories of geographic, demographic variations of pharmacokinetic, physicochemical and , physiological factors. This is where the principles of pharmacokinetics and therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) begins

Introduction

The purpose of opening this blog is to exchange information on the correct usages of drugs and study of their Pharmacokinetics and latest methods of their analysis. The knowledge gained by this method could be used for Drug Delivery system, Clinical studies and Pharmaceutical Analysis. I will try to update this blog as regularly as possible. Please visit this blog to get more information.
